This is Journalism 133, a major requirement for reporting and editing, photojournalism and magazine journalism students in the School of Journalism and Mass Communications. Two sections are being offered, #20955 and #28001, and are being team-taught by Michael Stoll, mstoll@casa.sjsu.edu, and Mack Lundstrom, mlundstrom@casa.sjsu.edu. We will meet at noon Mondays and Wednesdays for 75 minutes in DBH226.
Editing & News Management will concentrate on copy editing using the Associated Press Stylebook and on headline writing both for newspapers and online news sites during the first half of the course.
One of the most helpful companion courses for this course is Journalism 136, which meets at 6 p.m. on Thursdays because you will learn InDesign from experts. During the latter half of J133 we will design news pages, and the skills you learn in 136 will definitely help.
Mandatory this year will be use of a laptop.
You will need to have a relatively recent edition of the Associated Press Stylebook but don't buy the 2007 edition until we've met. See you Wednesday.
